D. MARK BARTON Assistant
to The President for Special Projects, Southern Utah University Board Member Emeritis, SETA
Born on a working cattle ranch and farm Mark grew up appreciating
the need to work with others to get the job done. Educated in the elementary and secondary
public schools of San Juan County near the four corners area (Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona) he
spent a lot of time working with Native Americans and Hispanics as well as
other groups. He spent his youth
enjoying and participating in an active athletic competition program and a
participant in the sport of Rodeo. At the
age of 19 he served a church service mission for two years teaching about our
relationship with Deity.
His collegiate years were spent at Brigham Young University
and Southern Utah University. His
undergraduate and graduate degrees were in Education. Professionally he has taught fifth grade and
been on the administration at Brigham Young University and Southern Utah
University. His assignments have
included Director of Advisement, Director of School Relations, Assistant Vice
President for Student Services and Vice President of Advancement. Currently he is spending a year before
retirement completing some special projects in the Presidents Office at
Southern Utah University.
He is the father of five and step father of four. People are very important to him. Water skiing, motor cycling, rodeo and
driving fast cars are sports he really enjoys.
His passion is helping develop and grow programs that make a personal
difference in individual lives. SETA
has
been a part of his life since 1985 and has been named a SETA Board
Member Emerits for his many contributions to the organizations.
